Many students expect home to feel instantly familiar. Instead, they may experience boredom, criticism, sadness or the sense that they no longer belong completely in either place. This is often called reverse culture shock.<\/p>\n

It does not mean the exchange was a mistake. Re-entry is another adjustment process and deserves time.<\/p>\n

Review expectations before returning<\/h2>\n

Think beyond reunions and favourite food to school, household rules and routines. Friends have had their own experiences and cannot absorb every story immediately. Relationships may need new shared moments.<\/p>\n

Make experiences easier to share<\/h2>\n

Choose a few situations and explain what changed for you. A short presentation, photos or a project may work better than trying to recount every month. The value of your experience does not depend on constant attention from others.<\/p>\n

Renegotiate family roles<\/h2>\n

Students may have managed decisions independently abroad while old rules await at home. Discuss specific responsibilities, money, chores and curfews rather than only claiming to be more mature.<\/p>\n

Choose realistic methods such as media, a language partner and scheduled messages. Maintaining the host-country connection is valuable, but constant comparison can prevent new goals at home.<\/p>\n

Persistent depression, withdrawal, anxiety or academic decline deserve attention. Programme staff, school support, a doctor or mental-health professional can help when daily life is not gradually becoming manageable.<\/p>\n

Turn information into a sound decision<\/h2>\n
